On September 12, all children from Kolol Primary school classes 1-4 (65 kids in total) went on a tour. During the course of this year, we got the idea to do something special for the children. It's great to have new classrooms, books, etcetera, but it's still school. It's good for the future of the children, but it's all serious stuff. Besides that, we realized that almost non of the children had ever been outside Kolol. The families just don't have the money to pay for a...

In July and August Kibet4Kids kept working hard to improve education in the Kenyan country side. We finished the construction of the second classroom. This class room is meant for the pupils of class five (starting January 2015), but at this moment it's already being used by one of the nursery classes, since they have a lack of space. Apart from that we made a sign board for the school, in cooperation with the board of directors (see picture). Up to now the name of the...

Kolol primary school started a partnership with Monymusk primary school in Scotland. Cooperation between Kibet4Kids and the Gathimba Edwards foundation made this possible. The purpose of this partnership is first and foremost cultural exchange. Pupils from both schools will make drawings, write compositions, ask questions, make pictures and produce video's about their life in either Kenya, or Scotland. The community and the primary school of Kolol lacks almost everything, also study materials. Up to now, the ratio pupils:textbooks was approximately 8:1. In other words; in a class of 24 pupils, on average 21 had no book. You can imagine how hard it is for them to follow the lesson and that it's almost impossible to get good grades. In March Kibet4Kids went to Eldoret, together with two teachers from Kolol for some big shopping. We bought school supplies for more than 2200...

On Monday November 11, Kibet4Kids chairperson Hilda Kibet and her sister Sylvia Kibet (two times silver medal winner at the World Championships Athletics), laid the first stones for Kolol’s new classrooms. Our plan is to finish the first classroom before the end of the year, so that the pupils of Standard 4 can use it and will not be forced to sit outside. Preparations were already done in October; the community of Kolol had worked hard in preparing the terrain of the...

The Easter period was used by Kibet4Kids to give out shoes and visit some primary schools. Kibet4Kids recently received more than 100 pairs of brand new shoes from Runner’s World magazine. In the last months we spend time giving out those shoes to children in Kenya. We were also given 30 pairs of ‘The Millenium shoe’, a pair of shoes that was especially designed to ask attention for the Millennium Development Goals, goals that were established by the United Nations...

Hilda Kibet and Hugo van den Broek had a meeting with the deputy DEO (District Education Officer) from Keiyo district – one of the districts in Kenya – mister Chemoiywo. He gave them valuable information about the number of primary schools in this district, as well as the number of pupils per school and class. This helps us in determining which schools are most in need of help. Mister Chemoiywo is of the opinion that the main reason for the less number of pupils in high...
