New school supplies for Kolol
The community and the primary school of Kolol lacks almost everything, also study materials. Up to now, the ratio pupils:textbooks was approximately 8:1. In other words; in a class of 24 pupils, on average 21 had no book. You can imagine how hard it is for them to follow the lesson and that it's almost impossible to get good grades. In March Kibet4Kids went to Eldoret, together with two teachers from Kolol for some big shopping. We bought school supplies for more than 2200 US dollars; hundreds of textbooks (most cost 7 dollars a piece), plus other supplies like topographical maps, maps of the human body, pens, pencils, exercise books, chalk and agenda's for the teachers.
All classes were given school supplies. This meant a big change for the school. Hilda Kibet: “Off course building classrooms is not enough. We really want to give the children of Kolol the same opportunities as rich children, or children from the big towns. That means you have to think about everything. School supplies, especially text books, are of vital importance. By taking care of this, we completely changed the nature of education in Kolol. This increases the pupils' chances to get good grades, so also to get a better future."
